This a real treasure for the serious knife collector. This specific
knife was custom made and then stolen in shipment in 1994. Through a
series of strange events it came into the hands of a gentleman that did
not know what he had until we told him. After sending it back to the
knifemaker, Kevin McClung, for cleaning and resharpening, the new owner
decided to sell it. We jumped at the chance of obtaining this
one-of-a-kind knife. Mad Dog knives have been appreciating in value
faster that silver or gold. Each one is painstakingly made, by hand,
one at a time. No mistakes, no seconds, no excuses.
The
bottom pictures is from us chopping into a galvanized steel pipe. There
was no damage to the knife and it remained razor sharp. You can watch
the video here
The future appreciation value of this knife is undeterminable at this time. Sky's the limit as far as we know. Made in the USA.

Dog® Hell Hound
-- Collector's Item --
1st Hell Hound ever made
Fighter, Fixed, Tactical Fixed
Blade 11.5" OAL 17.5"
The blade steel is Starrett
496-O1 high carbon tool steel.
Hidden full tang. Selectively tempered. 62-63 HRC at edge, 50-54 HRC through tang and
spine. This provides superior
edge-holding ability with exceptional durability for prying and chopping.
Grip is Black glass/epoxy
composite. Mad Dog Knives uses a
glass/epoxy composite grip material that is compression bonded to the hidden
full tang. The ergonomic grip indexes
the blade in the user's hand, thus letting the user know how the blade is
presented, even in the dark. With a
compressive yield strength of 79,000 psi. The grip can withstand tremendous punishment with no damage. The composite grip material provides 1,000
volts per mil dielectric strength - electrically isolating the user from the
blade. Nonabsorbent and impervious to
virtually all chemicals and solvents.
A hellhound is a demonic dog of Hell, found in mythology, folklore and fiction.
Hellhounds typically have features such as an unnaturally large size, a black
fur color, glowing eyes, super strength or speed, ghostly or phantom
characteristics, and sometimes even the ability to talk. They are often
assigned to guard the entrance to the world of the
dead or undertake other duties related to the afterlife or
the supernatural,
such as hunting down lost souls or guarding a supernatural treasure.
Mad Dog Knives
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mad Dog Knives is a custom knifemaking
facility headed by Kevin McClung, a former Senior Materials Scientist at
the American Rocket Company, Mad Dog
Knives is based in Prescott, Arizona.[1][2]
Mad Dog Knives made the fixed-blade knife known as the ATAK, used by Naval Special Warfare Groups 1
and 2 after the "SEAL Trials" of 1992.[3]
Mad Dog Knives are typically made from selectively tempered, hand
ground O1 Tool Steel with a hardchrome plating to protect the blade.[1]
[edit] Materials and design
Mad Dog Knives makes tactical
fixed-blade knives, using Starrett 496-O1 high carbon tool
steel which is given a proprietary heat treatment. This process
includes hardening, stress relieving, and selectively tempering the
blade.[1]
As a result, the blades have an edge hardness of 62-63 on the Rockwell C scale whereas the tip, spine, and tang have a
Rockwell hardness of 50-54.[1]
This heat treatment was devised to develop phenomenal edge retention
while preventing tip breakage and maintaining a degree of flexibility on
the softer spine to improve the toughness of the knife. The blades are coated with a layer of hard chrome as a method of abrasion and corrosion resistance.[1]
Mad Dog Knives utilizes a proprietary glass/epoxy composite fiberglass
for the handle material of its knives.[1]
This material can withstand long term heat in excess of 149 degrees
Celsius (300 degrees Fahrenheit), a tractive force of 79,000 psi,
current of 1,000 volts per mil (0.001") of thickness and is impervious
to salt water, diesel oil, benzine and other caustic/corrosive fluids.[1][4]
Mad Dog Knives utilizes kydex as a sheath material, specifications for the
ATAK knife included "nonmagnetic metal rivets were to be used in the
manufacture of the sheath".[1][5]
Mad Dog Knives has also made ceramic
MIRAGE X blades and blades from other non-metallic materials for EOD and
other military usage.[6]
These knives are not available for sale to the general public.[6]
[edit] Military models
Mad Dog Knives' was the company which won the 1992 "SEAL Trials" to
supply Naval Special Warfare
Groups 1 and 2 with a fixed blade knife.[1][7]
This knife is named the ATAK (Advanced Tactical Assault Knife) and Mad
Dog Knives received a U.S. Navy Sole Source Justification for its
manufacture. The ATAK is the only knife in US Military history to be
honored with a sole source justification. [1][3]
[edit] In the media
Mad Dog Knives have been utilized as weapons in Richard Marcinko's Rogue Warrior novels and Stephen Seagal's movie Under Siege 2.[8][9]
One of the knives used in the movie was later sold at a Safari Club International fund
raiser for $10,000.[10]
